About Building Stronger Families
When adapting to life in Australia, some people may face stresses and challenges that negatively impact their behaviours and be catastrophic to their family relationships. The Building Stronger Families program helps Arabic-speaking newcomers to build strong and healthy relationships, develop effective communication skills, and address issues such as conflict, stress, and domestic and family violence.
The private and confidential program facilitates in-language weekly discussions for Arabic-speaking men and women – with separate groups for each language and gender. Funded by Women NSW and provided in partnership with Relationships Australia, the free program empowers participants over the course of 18 weeks to build strong family connections and create a positive, supportive, and safe environment for children and young people to thrive.

FAQs
Who is it for?
Arabic- speaking men and women, aged over 18, who have come to Australia from overseas and want to learn about domestic and family violence and improving their family relationships in Australia.
What are the group sessions like?
It is common for people to experience some initial anxiety over the prospect of participating in a group, and don’t know what to expect. Our groups typically have 8-12 participants of the same gender and language. The group facilitators provide information, create discussion, allow for self-reflection, goal setting, taking responsibility and learning new skills. Being in a group offers a safe, supportive environment where you can share your thoughts and ideas and learn from others experiencing similar challenges.
How can it help me?
Attending the group sessions will help you gain the confidence to turn negative habits and cycles into positive ones, manage strong emotions constructively and create the future you want. You will be able to clarify the problems affecting your family relationships, gain new perspectives and develop useful tools to work through change.
